Five Frugal Dates for Teens
Is Your Teen Big on Love but Short on Cash?
Like many teens, my son doesn’t have wads of cash lying around to spend on his lady. They have been dating for over a year now, which is like 25 years in old people time. So, it is no surprise that they act like an old married couple — an old married couple that does not live in the same house. They are just always here, at our house. In observing them, I have learned that there are a lot of ways to keep a young romance alive, yet still be able to afford gas. So, here are some ways teens can date for free or almost free.
Fast Food Specials— Chipotle recently had a deal where you could buy a tofu sofrita get a burrito free on another day. The kids did this.
Bargain Time – Just like stores, chain restaurants sometimes have special prices on special days or at specific times. Steak and Shake has a Happy hour special.
Coupons — They’re not just for the geriatric set. We get coupons in the mail all the time. Instead of tossing them, I look through, pick out the burger and pizza place coupons, and save them for my son.
Gift Cards — It can be tough to buy real presents for picky teens, so gift cards to movies, restaurants, or Amazon can be great gifts. My son uses his gift cards to take his girl out or buy her a gift.
Parent Theater – Don’t let them watch you bicker. Let them use the cable mom and dad already pay for. With a little planning, a teen can DVR some movies ahead of time and settle in with a date for a night of parent purchased snacks and entertainment.
There are a lot of inexpensive or free dating options for young people. Of course we can’t TELL our kids to check out these neat cheap dates. Then, we are overbearing and rude. So, just leave your laptop open on this page and tell your teen NOT TO READ it. My job here is done.
