The Silver Lining and Parenting

The Silver Lining and Parenting

It has been a busy late winter, early spring.  The weather has been absolutely alluring.  I have been  enjoying it and preparing for several upcoming events.  My daughters and I came back from a girls only vacation from Orlando, Florida.  I wish I could say it was a perfect trip, however, things went wrong and it was not as ideal as I would have liked it to be.

But I did maintain my composure and model for my girls to make the best out of a not so good situation.  Ultimately, we enjoyed the Florida sun, Universal Studios and just being away and together.  I showed my girls to appreciate the silver lining, even if it is elusive.

It was our first time there and we learned a lot for the next time.  They learned to make the best of a situation.  I’m glad, we are glad we did it.  It was a good experience.  So we are moving on.  My middle daughter is attending a prom with a friend, my brother is getting married in June and I may be getting laid off before next school year.  Oops, did I just type that out loud?

A little bitter with the sweet.  Yes,  some real changes are coming and again, I will make the best of it.  My girls are watching me and I must say my track record with responding to difficulties has not been that great.  So I am making some choices to roll with the punches.  I still have some good things happening in my life, new-found friends online and a world of opportunities.  I will embrace that. You never know what tomorrow holds.

I am working on a project to revitalize my life.  As I gain more freedom as a parent, because my children are much older, I have decided to focus more on myself and fulfillment.  I have also realize that my girls listen to more of what I “do” than what I “say”.  That is primarily why I took a different approach to dealing with difficulty in front of them.  In order to raise them right, I have to live it.

So, happy May to all and here’s to finding the silver lining.
